Sizes

What van means at the counter

Partners use different names. Match seats and bags, not just the photo.

Minivan

7 passengers

The usual family choice: three rows, car-seat friendly, easier to garage than a 12-passenger van.

Passenger van (8–12)

8–12 passengers

Sports teams, wedding groups, and cousins flying in together. Book early. LAX stock is thinner than sedans.

15-passenger van

Up to 15

Often restricted to drivers 25+. Confirm cargo vs seating if you also have luggage for everyone.

Group-trip practicalities

  • Name every driver at pickup. Split-shift drivers still need to be on the contract.
  • If a 15-passenger van is gone, two minivans are often cheaper than stretching a sold-out class.
  • One-way vans to other California cities are not guaranteed. Read that line in the quote.
  • Height in parking structures: large vans do not belong in low downtown garages.

Booking a van at LAX without a last-minute scramble

Vans are not just “a bigger car” in the same pool as economy Corollas. The Rental Car Center turns a lot of sedans. It does not turn an endless line of 12-seaters. If your dates sit on a holiday weekend, a convention, or an awards week, book when the guest list is firm. Waiting for a miracle 15-passenger van the night before a rehearsal dinner is how groups end up in two Ubers and a bad mood.

Count people with car seats as people, and count hockey bags as bags. A listing that says 12 passengers rarely means 12 adults plus 12 roll-aboards. If the photo and the seat count disagree, trust the voucher. “Or similar” substitutions are common when the exact model is out.

Age rules bite harder on large vans. Many brands want the primary driver to be 25 or older for a 15-seater. Younger drivers may still be fine in a minivan, with a young-driver line on the quote. Verify that on the partner checkout. LaxRentals does not invent the dollar amount and does not sell insurance.

Pickup is the same pattern as other on-airport cars: signs after baggage claim, then the airport connection to the Rental Car Center, unless your confirmation says a company shuttle. Send one organized person to the desk with every license. Photograph bumpers, sliding doors, and the roof. Returns follow rental-return signs to the same facility, not to an airline terminal.

Van rental questions

Can I rent a 12- or 15-passenger van at LAX?

Yes, but inventory is limited and some brands restrict large vans to drivers 25+. Book as soon as your group dates are firm. If a 15-passenger van is sold out, two minivans are often easier to find.

Are one-way van rentals available?

Sometimes, at a higher fee. Dropping a large van in another city is not always offered. Search both DiscoverCars and Rentalcars.com and read the one-way line in the quote.
