Airport vs off-airport
Convenience and the all-in total matter more than the headline daily rate.
After baggage claim, follow rental-car signs and take the free airport connection to the consolidated facility. Counters, ready cars, and returns are centralized. Best when you land late or want a familiar brand without a third-party shuttle.
Some quotes send you to a nearby lot. You meet a marked shuttle instead of the Rental Car Center. Rates can look lower. Add wait time and confirm the last shuttle if you land after 11 p.m.

The useful question is not “which brand is cheapest on a banner.” It is whether you are picking up at the Rental Car Center or meeting an off-airport shuttle, and whether the all-in total still looks sane after concession recovery, the customer facility charge, tax, and any young-driver line. Those labels come from the airport and the brand. They are not a LaxRentals markup. Verify the live amounts on the partner checkout for your dates.
After you land, collect bags and stay on the arrivals level. Follow rental-car signs (purple wayfinding is common) rather than hotel or ride-hail islands. As of September 2026 the usual ride to the Rental Car Center is a free airport shuttle. An airport train has been in testing. If signs have changed the day you fly, obey the signs. Off-airport confirmations will tell you to wait for a branded van instead. Mixing those two queues is the classic first-timer delay.
At the desk, bring licenses for every driver and the card the partner expects. Photograph the car in the garage. Returns use the same facility for most on-airport brands. Many credit cards cover collision damage on rentals if you decline the partner CDW and charge the rental to that card. Liability, personal effects, and international use are different. Confirm with your card issuer and health insurance before you decline coverage. LaxRentals does not sell insurance.
Most LAX brands allow drivers 21–24 with a young-driver fee. Additional drivers may be free for a spouse or paid per day for others. Add every driver at pickup. Unlisted drivers are usually not covered.
